Top 5 Free iPhone Apps For College Life
That’s right the iTunes App Store. Specially made for the iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch. The best solution for any phone to find incredible apps for itself. The treo, nor blackberry, or any iPhone competitor has their own app store. You must haphazardly find your own apps from a slew of different websites for those phones. The App store is simple and brilliant. It’s what sets the iPhone another bar higher than the others. With that said I’m going to keep it short and sweet today. Here are The OS’s top 5 free apps for college students because you know we can’t afford any paid apps! In order from least favorite to top favorite…
#5 - AIM
The number one IM service is on the iPhone. The app is a bit shoddy, but does what it says it will do. Could use some more options, for instance turn off the annoying aim sound without having to turn off the phones sound. Luckily though you should have your iPhone on vibrate anyway, so that makes in class IM sessions easy to do… as long as you are smooth enough to pull it off. AIM is also handy for when you can’t get ahold of your buddy, just go see if they are on AIM and tell them to answer their phone! Happens to me quite a bit.
#4 - Tap Tap Revolution
A very fun and addicting game to play. Another app to help you pass the time whether in be in class, or sitting through some boring presentation. And if you go to AU, CHAPEL. I can envision myself loading up this game and tapping my way through chapel, can’t you? This game is based off of Dance Dance revolution and you just tap the colored bubbles as they come by in rhythm to the music. Every college student knows what DDR is this is just TTR. Definitely a must have game as they add more levels.
#3 - Twittelator
If you don’t have a twitter account, you better get one fast. It’s just like when Facebook came around, you don’t want to be the last kid on campus without an account. That is unless you are one of those “rebellious” kids that goes against the status quo, and doesn’t even own a computer because the government can tap into it! Twitter is a very important, and handy, communication tool for me. I can ask any question and have my Twitter friends help me out with an answer. I really like Twitter for the simple fact that it asks you, “What are you doing?” Then you only have 140 characters to let everyone know. Now with the iPhone you can find out what’s happening on campus through Twittelator and Twitter. Twittelator let’s you do location based “tweets” as they are called, finding what people are doing around you. Possibly finding something fun to do besides play Counter-Strike.
#2 - Pandora
If you aren’t already familiar with Pandora, then shame on you. Every college student is always out on the prowl for new music. Especially those Indie kids, that have listened to some obscure band you’ve never heard of. Well Pandora well expose you to all sorts of new music, pissing of the Indie kids once you find the same bands they do. All Pandora does is let you create a “station” by entering an artist or song you like. It then finds other artist with similar stylings that you could potentiall like. It’s a genious application and is even better on the iPhone. It’s like an internet radio device, screw XM when you have Pandora on your iPhone. A must for a college student who likes music.
#1 - Remote
The remote application is made by Apple, and is a great app for the millions of iTunes users. It controls your iTunes or AppleTV through wifi connections. Personally this is so much better than trying to not loose that tiny little white remote. I have an AppleTV, the only one on campus I think, and when we try to watch Diggnation or some seasons of MXC the little remote is missing! Now all that is needed is my iPhone, or someones iPhone to control it. I know not everyone has the AppleTV but it’s beautiful to control your iTunes through. Works incredibly quick and you no longer have to get up from you futon to change a song in your iTunes. This apps ease of use and usefullness make it number one on my list for college students.
I hope you enjoyed this list of apps. You could of potentially just discovered your new favorite app to pass the time in class. Do check all of these out in the App store, and give them a try. Let me know of other apps you deem usefull for the average college student. I know there are a lot more than five! Thanks!
